Chemical Peel

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical peels are a cosmetic treatment used to remove damaged skin cells, revealing smoother, healthier skin underneath. They can be used on the face, neck and hands to treat the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, melasma, uneven skin tone and redness.  The treatment harnesses the power of naturally occurring acids and active ingredients to stimulate new cell growth and collagen production.

I want to start treatment - what do I do?

A consultation is required before your treatment is started, so that we can review your medical history, assess your skin health and discuss your areas of concern and your expectations. We will talk you through the amount of treatments you will need to achieve your goals, the aftercare and what your results might be.

The process.

You will always start off on a lower strength peel so that your skin can get used to the treatment, and then the strength of peel can be increased as your treatments go on. During the procedure, your therapist will use a brush, cotton ball, gauze or sponge to apply the chemical solution to your skin. The treated skin will begin to whiten (this is temporary and not to be concerned about). You might also feel some mild stinging while the solution is on your skin. The solution stays on for 3 minutes and is then washed off with a special neutralising solution for 2 minutes. After this, the therapist will protect your skin with a cooling moisturiser.

Aftercare

After a chemical peel, your skin may be red, tight, irritated or swollen. This can last up to 24-48 hours and we recommend you try not to wear any make up until the next day. After that the results of your peel will be visible, and your skin will continue to improve over the next 4 weeks, at which you would be recommended to come in for your next treatment.

Please note that after a peel your skin may be more sensitive to heat and the sun, and therefore we recommend you avoid sunbeds, steam rooms, saunas and direct sunlight for 24-48 hours after your peel.
